Title: Forgotten Tastes of our Ancestors
Editor: Karin Mimica-Ignatoski
Publisher: Adamic d.o.o 2002 183pp

The aim of this book is to offer a range of recipes that are representative of ‘traditional Croatian cooking’, as well as ones that use ingredients that have been used in the Kvarner region for centuries. The recipes chosen for this collection are ones that thirty Croatian restaurants entered into a gastro competition organised by the Croatian Restaurants Association. Instead of being divided by dish – i.e. meat, fish – the book is organised by restaurant – where each restaurant offers a brief description of an ingredient that is found locally. This is then followed by a number of recipes that use this ingredient, as well as recipes of other specialities of that particular area/town. Since it is intended for a wider readership, the book covers four languages (Croatian, English, Italian and German), where each recipe is translated into every language. One consequence of this multi lingual approach is that the translation can be a little shaky in places.
